Silodosin is a medication used to treat both benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and erectile dysfunction (ED). It works by blocking alpha-1a adrenoreceptors, which helps to relax the muscles in the prostate and surrounding urinary pathways, increasing the flow of urine and reducing symptoms such as hesitancy, dribbling, and urgency. It is taken orally and metabolized into silodosin glucuronide in the liver, which is then excreted in the urine. Silodosin is a safe and effective treatment option for BPH and ED, even for those with mild to moderate hepatic impairment. Those with severe hepatic impairment may require closer monitoring for adverse effects and may require adjusted doses, given the increased exposure to silodosin.
